ROBOTIC S.T.E.A.M. Values:

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

We believe ALL children should have equal access to enrichment opportunities.

Often times underrepresented children are unaware of the careers that exist within these fields and/or believe that they are unattainable.

Robotic S.T.E.A.M. will show children that a career in the STEM fields is a possibility and provide them with skills that are fundamental in any field that they choose no matter their race, gender, religion, creed, disability or social status.

Research show that the ethnic and racial groups that have comprised a minority in the U.S. are growing in size; however, they remain underrepresented in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These groups include students identified as American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. Across the nation these groups together earned only 5.6% of the degrees awarded in physical sciences and 9% of degrees earned in engineering. Women are also underrepresented in the STEM fields. While they comprise of half of the college educated workers, they only make up 28% of the STEM workforce.

The decreasing amount of minorities working in the STEM fields becomes increasingly problematic as the growth rate of the minority population brings them closer to becoming a majority. Minorities may be cognizant of particular societal, health, and political issues that the majority of STEM students would not normally consider. Science relies heavily on individuals with diverse perspectives working together. Individuals working in diverse groups are greatly influenced by the different viewpoints of the minority members and exhibit enhanced complex thought processes as a result. Individuals with similar mindsets come to similar conclusions when solving problems. Individuals with different trains of thought approach problems from different viewpoints and come up with different solutions. Adding diversity to the existing pool of STEM workers is not only crucial to our survival, but our ability to remain at the forefront of the global scientific & technological advances that are occurring. Robotic S.T.E.A.M. will target children who are underrepresented in the STEM fields; students identified as girls, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. Because this is an inclusive program it is important that students of all backgrounds attend and participate in our programs. Robotic S.T.E.A.M. will work hard to ensure that individuals of all ethnicities, socioeconomic status, and gender are well represented.

Robotic S.T.E.A.M. believes that we can help bridge this gap and support the dreams and visions of your children while providing them with the skills needed to thrive in these industries.

Future Focus

To fuel our future, the STEM fields are of the upmost importance. Scientists and engineers are crucial to our national security, competitiveness, and overall health & wellbeing.

To stay ahead we need to develop a diverse pool of STEM workers and the larger the pool of candidates, the more likely we are to find the talented practitioners that we need.

We intend to be a contributing component to the industry by enriching our participants skills and mindsets.

Families and Supports

We understand that as basic and essential building blocks of societies, families have a crucial role in social development. They bear the primary responsibility for the education and socialization of children as well as instilling values of citizenship, acceptance, and belonging in the society.

Families and family supports teach youth social norms and ethics, introduce social awareness and safe-spaces, implements standards and responsibilities in society, provide protection and nurture, and monitor and guide foundational growth principles.

With this in mind, we believe in partnering with our community to bring families closer together. Through our programs, families are able to grow stronger together and ensure that their children are being provided additional support that aligns with the family's mission.
