AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM: Winter Session 2025 IES
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM: Winter Session 2025 IES
Please note this option is only for Brooklyn Prospect IES Families.
Students will work together to create solutions to problems using higher order thinking, teamwork, creativity, research skills, programming, and technology. Our students learn that science cannot operate in a bubble and it takes all kinds of people working together to solve the world’s problems. Our community works together, takes care of each other, and helps each other learn and grow regardless of age and gender. We understand that the best scientists are well rounded individuals so as much as we love building robots and shooting off rockets, we understand the importance of engaging in a wide range of fun activities.
Mondays - ROBOTICS: students will have a ton of fun exploring various S.T.E.A.M. themes [space exploration, velocity, biology, energy, electricity, etc.] and conducting various experiments, coding, and robot builds surrounding the theme.
Tuesdays - HUMAN ANATOMY: Students will learn about their anatomy and how the body is able to do the amazing things that it does. With exciting projects and experiments we will be able to dive into what's inside bones, how blood flows through the body, how the immune system fights diseases, create models of the skin, lungs, cells, and more.
Wednesdays - CODETASTIC: students will learn basic coding skills and create their own games. Coding is a basic literacy in the digital age, and it is important for kids to work with and understand the technology around them. Having children learn coding at a young age prepares them for the future and helps them with communication, creativity, math, writing, and confidence.
Thursdays - MAKERSPACE: students will enjoy a collaborative workspace for creating, learning, exploring, and sharing. In different areas with various medias students have space to get their creative juices flowing to design and create something new, fun, and all their own. Materials fee: $25
Fridays - KITCHEN SCIENCE LAB: students will gain a better understanding of the world around them as we explore the world around us with fun & wacky experiments designed to excite their interests in science.
Session Duration: January 2nd - March 28th / No classes January 20th & 29th, and February 17th - 21st.
